Bears drop two on second day of Gulf Shores Invitational

Gulf Shores, Ala.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team fell 6-0 to Auburn Montgomery and 6-5 to Spring Hill on day two of the Gulf Shores Invitational.

Cassidy Wall, Madison Primm, and Alycea Gilliam each had two hits on the day for the Bears.

STORY OF THE GAME ONE:
  • AUM scored quickly as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a half-inning. 
  • The Warhawks then added single runs in the 3rd, 6th and 7th as AUM pounded out 13 hits in this one.
  • Bears did not register a hit until the 7th inning when Cassidy Wall single to lead off the inning.
  • In total, The Bears only had two baserunners in the game. 
  • Alissa Russ threw the complete game in the circle for the Bears, allowing just two earned runs. 
  • After a pair of errors in the opener on Friday, LR made three more errors in this one. 
STORY OF THE GAME TWO:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne got off to a hot starting, scoring four runs in the top of the first.
  • Avery Kiger hit a 2 RBI single to score Julia Mardigian and Cassidy Wall, before Lani Warren scored thanks to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
  • Kiger rounded out the scoring by crossing the plate thanks to an Abbey Nixon RBI.
  • Spring Hill scored two runs in the first and three in the third to make it a 5-4 game.
  • With two outs and a runner on second, Adda Prescott came in clutch, hitting an RBI double to tie the game.
  • Three hits from SHC in the bottom of the sixth led to the winning run.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Rackard 11 hits away from 200 career hits
  • LR and AUM have never played before last years game in the World Series. 
  • This was the first time Bears played Spring Hill.
UP NEXT: The Bears will conclude their open weekend trip with a game against Saint Leo on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET.
