Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team outscored the Carson-Newman Eagles 38-21 in the second and third quarter to erase an early double digit deficit and upset the Eagles 69-58 in the annual Play4Kay game. The Bears had a key 12-0 run late in the third period to pull away from the visiting Eagles.
Blaikley Crooks lead the Bears with 17 points while
Vanessa Jurewicz had 16 points and
Alexandra Merceron added 15 points, both off the bench for the Bears.

STORY OF THE GAME:
- The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Carson-Newman opened up 25-14 lead after ten minutes.
- With C-N leading 28-18 in the second quarter, the teams went almost four minutes without a score before Vanessa Jurewicz hit a three-pointer to get within seven.
- After four straight points from Blaikley Crooks, the Bears were within three before the teams traded baskets to close the half with the Eagles up 34-31.
- LR took their first lead of the game after a layup from Crooks with 6:32 left in the third period.
- Lenoir-Rhyne proceeded to go on a 12-0 run late in the third quarter to open a six point lead heading into the final frame.
- A huge three point play with 7:05 left in the game by Jurewicz give LR their biggest lead of the day at twelve.
- C-N cut the lead to seven on a couple of occasions but Crooks iced the game with four straight free-throws in the final minute to close the victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- LR shot 40% from the floor (24-59), including 46% in both the second and third quarter.
- The Bears went 18-22 from the free-throw line as Crooks went a perfect 7-7.
- Sarah Burton led the Bears with nine rebounds while Alexandra Merceron and Tilda Lindstroem had six apiece.
- The win snaps a three game losing streak to the Eagles.
- The Bears moved into 9th place in the SAC and sit a game behind Lincoln Memorial for 8th.
UP NEXT: LR will head to #12 Coker on Wednesday night. The SAC leaders are 19-1 this season and riding a twelve game winning streak. The Bears played them tough back on December 18th before falling 71-65. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
