Bears drop road contest at nationally ranked Coker

HARTSVILLE, SC - The Bears struggled on Wednesday, scoring a season-low 40 points in a 57-40 loss at #12 Coker. Tilda Lindstroem recorded a double-double while Vanessa Jurewicz and Blaikley Crooks combined for 18 points in the loss. This is the first time Coker has swept the season series against LR since the two teams first met during the 2010-2011 season.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Tilda Lindstroem scored six of the first eight points for the Bears to begin the first Quarter.
  • An Emily Harman jump shot gave the Bears their first lead of the game, 10-9, with under four minutes left in the first quarter,
  • The Bears defense forced four turnovers in the opening frame, including three blocked shots and two steals.
  • A Vanessa Jurewicz three-pointer cut the deficit to three 19-16 halfway through the second quarter.
  • Coker took a 21-16 lead heading into halftime as the Jurewicz three was LR's only points of the quarter.
  • Both teams shot under 30% from the field and com 17 combined turnovers in the first half.
  • The Cobras opened the second half with a 8-0 run to stretch their lead 27-16, the largest of the game.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne cut the deficit to 11 with under seven minutes remaining thanks to a Sarah Burton three-pointer.
  • Coker outscored the Bears 19-12 in the final frame to seal the win. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne was outscored in the paint 34-12 and out rebounded 45-36. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne shot 14-for-53 (25.0%) from the field while Coker shot 21-for-62 (33.9%). 
  • Both teams struggled from three, as LR went 4-16 (25%) and Coker 2-13 (15.4%).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • This is Vanessa Jurewicz's fourth game this season hitting multiple three-pointers in a game.
  • Tilda Lindstroem has produced at least five rebounds in 12 games this season for the Bears.
  • Blaikley Crooks produced a season-high in steals (4) and finished with eight points and five boards.
  • Lindstroem now has four double-doubles on the year..
UP NEXT: The Bears will return home to face off against Mars Hill with a chance to avenge an early season loss to the Lions. Mars Hill is coming off a 98-75 loss at Carson-Newman earlier tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM from Shuford Arena.
