Wainwright cycle highlights weekend sweep

HICKORY, NC - The Bears can't be stopped, as they have now won seven straight following 7-2 and 14-6 wins over Bloomsburg on Saturday. Highlighting the day was Mackenzie Wainwright, who hit for the cycle in game two, going 4-for-5 with four runs and five RBI's.

GAME ONE INFO:
  • The teams traded runs in the second inning before Cole Laskowski drove in a run and scored on a wild pitch to make 3-1 Bears.
  • Alex Khan's first career home gave the Bears a 5-1 lead in the 4th.
  • Laskowski scored in the fifth and Owen Blackledge in the sixth the secure the win.
  • Kellen Gradisar picked up the win, throwing six innings while striking out six.
  • Cole Bramhall closed the game with a zero-spot in the 7th.
  • The Bears were out-hit 7-6 in the game, their second fewest hits in a game this season.
  • Blackledge and Cole Stanford each had two hits for the Bears. 
GAME TWO INFO:
  • The Bears were in a battle early, as they saw themselves down 4-2 going into the bottom of th second.
  • Mackenzie Wainwright turned the game on his head when after a balk was called, he hit the oncoming pitch to deep right field for a three-run bomb.
  • Joseph Mozingo hit an RBI single in the third to make it 6-4 in favor of the home side.
  • Owen Blackledge accounted for three of LR's four runs in the fourth, hitting a 2 RBI single and scoring on a bases loaded walk.
  • Sitting a triple away from the cycle in the seventh, Wainwright hit a 2 RBI triple to right field to complete the rare feat.
  • Blackledge was 1-for-2 with three RBI's, two runs, and two walks in the game.
  • Cole Laskowski, Joseph Mozingo, and Alex Kahn finished with two hits in the contest.
  • It was a bullpen game for the Bears, as six pitchers threw. 
  • Peyton Schofield was the most effective, striking out five in three innings of work.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears are now 7-2 all-time against the Huskies.
  • Laskowski is now three hits away from 200.
  • Cole Stanford played in his 100th game yesterday for LR.
  • This is LR's best start since they opened at 22-1 in 2022.
UP NEXT: Bears will open SAC play next week when they welcome Wingate to town. The three-game series starts with a single game on Friday at 3:00 PM. Wingate opened SAC this weekend with a split with UVA-Wise on Friday.
