Bears use long ball to win SAC opener over Wingate

HICKORY, NC - The bats were hot for #18 Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday afternoon, as they used seven home runs to take down Wingate 9-2 in the Bears SAC opener. All 11 runs on the day came from home runs, including two inside the park home runs from Mackenzie Wainwright and Cole Laskowski in a wild seventh inning.

Andrew Harlow went eight innings on the mound, allowing just two runs to pick up win number four on the season.

Mackenzie Wainwright hit two home runs while Sal Carricato, Cole Stanford, Cole Laskowski, Micheal Logan, and Alex Khan added long balls of their own.

GAME INFO:
  • The teams traded solo home runs in the 4th as Sean Sullivan got the Bulldogs on the board, while Sal Carricato tied things up in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Alex Naylor gave Wingate the lead back with a lead-off home run in the fifth. 
  • LR responded for the second straight inning as Michael Logan and Mackenzie Wainwright went deep to give the Bears a 4-2 lead after five. 
  • An unusual bottom of the seventh saw LR hit three home runs, including two inside the park home runs from Wainwright and Cole Laskowski.
  • Both Wainwright and Laskowski hit high fly balls to right center that got lost in the sun by Wingate's outfielders. LR led 8-2 after seven.
  • Cole Stanford extended his hitting streak to ten games with a solo home run in the 8th to cap the scoring for the Bears.
  • Harlow went eight innings, allowing just two runs to move to 4-0.
  • Michael Logan's infield single in the 8th was the Bears only hit that was not a home run on the day.
