Softball drops a pair to No. 9 Francis Marion

Hickory, N.C.-- The #19 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team dropped a pair of games to #9 Francis Marion in a battle of two ranked teams on Tuesday inside McCrorie Family Stadium.The Bears, playing for the first time ten days fell, 8-0 and 7-1 as the Patriots pitchers held the Bears to just seven hits on the day. LR will return to Shena Hollar Field this weekend for the first of two Bear Bash Tournaments. 

Cassidy Wall got a pair of hits in the second game, including her 200th career hit.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • This one was all Patriots, as Francis Marion used three home runs to score six of their eight runs. FMU scored three runs in second, a single run in the fourth, and then capped it off with a four-run seventh.
  • The Bears were held to just three singles in this one, with Julia Mardigian, Katelyn Rackard, and Lani Warren each grabbing a hit.
  • Madison Wilson (1-2) pitched six plus innings in the circle as Brooklin Heavner came in relief to pitched the seventh. 
  • Rackard stole her second base of the season in this one. 

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • After the Patriots scored a single run in the top of the 1st, Cassidy Wall's 200th career hit was a RBI single to left to tie the game 1-1 after the first. 
  • LR did not find a zero until the fifth inning as FMU scored single runs in the first three innings and then put a four spot up in the fourth. 
  • Alissa Russ was the bright spot in the circle for the Bears as she went 3.2 innings of one hit ball and didn't allow a run. 
  • Wall was the only Bear with a multi-hit game today as she notched two hits in this one.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • This is the third year in a row these teams have played a non-conference doubleheader against each other. 
  • As the teams are now 3-3 against each other in the last three years. 
  • Katelyn Cozort made her first career start in the second game today. 
  • Rackard had two hits on the day and now stands at 197 for her career.
  • Rackard also scored her 140th career run in game two. 
  • The Bears were held to just seven singles in the two games today. 
UP NEXT: Bear Bash I starts on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. LR will play four games this weekend with games against Assumption, Young Harris, West Liberty, and Augusta.
