Baseball picks up 25th win with sixth straight victory

Hickory, N.C.-- The #8 ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team picked up win number 25th with a 12-4 victory over visiting Concord. The Bears become the second team in the nation this season to pick up their 25th victory. 

Cole Stanford stayed en fuego with three more hits, including two home runs. Stanford has hit eight home runs in his last six games. Mackenzie Wainwright and Joseph Mozingo added home runs as LR has now hit 71 home runs on the season, which easily leads all of DII.

GAME INFO:
  • Mackenzie Wainwright did not waste anytime getting the Bears on the board as he took the second pitch he saw and blasted a line drive over the left center wall for his 15th home run of the season.  
  • Cole Stanford made it two straight innings with a lead-off home run, crushing the Bears's second solo home run of the game in the second inning. 
  • With the Bears averaging 2.39 home runs a game, all it took was the 4th inning before the Bears hit their third home run of the game when Joseph Mozingo hit a two-out, two-run home run to give LR a 4-0 lead. 
  • A five-run fifth inning was highlighted by a base clearing triple by Michael Logan, his fifth triple of the season. 
  • Peyton Schofield got the start and pitched four scoreless inning with four strikeouts while Nathan Morris pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the season. 
  • Preston Drebes and Kobie Cushing picked up zeros out of the bullpen.
  • Stanford's second home run of the day and his eighth home run in the last six games give the Bears a 11-2 lead. Stanford might be the hottest player in the country, going 20-for-32 (.625 ) in his last nine games.
  • Cole Laskowski added a RBI single in the 8th to cap off the scoring for the Bears.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first ever meeting between this teams here in Hickory, The only other meeting occurred in 2016. 
  • Wainwright extended his hitting streak to 19 games. 
  • Sal Carricato also extended his hitting streak to 15 games with his first triple of the season. 
  • LR came in #3 in yesterday's D2 Baseball poll, The new NCBWA media poll will be released on Wednesday. 
  • The Bears are tied with UT-Tyler as each now have 25 wins in the season. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Lincoln Memorial for a huge SAC weekend series. LMU is 17-13 and 7-8 in the SAC this season. They are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Wingate, winning the final game to avoid the sweep. This is also the first SAC series in Harrogate for these teams since the 2018 season. First-pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
