Hickory, N.C. -- The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team opened SAC play with some excitement, earning an extra inning victory over Mars Hill.
Lani Warren tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth, then drove in the game-winning run in the 8th.
Madison Wilson, who was named SAC pitcher of the week earlier in the day, went out and threw a complete game in the circle, tying her career high with 11 strikeouts.
In the night game,
Alexandria Gray hit her second home run of the season but the Bears were held to just three hits in a 5-2 loss.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
- The Lions struck first with an unearned run in the first inning before the Bears finally struck for a pair of runs off the bat of Alexandria Gray, who had a two-run single in the 4th.
- Mars Hill responded in their half of the 4th with their own two-run single to retake the lead at 3-2.
- Lani Warren not only extended her hitting streak to seven games, but also tied the game with a solo blast in the 6th.
- For the second time this year, LR found themselves in extra innings. Warren came up with another clutch hit,bringing home Cassidy Wall to give the Bears the 4-3 lead.
- Wilson stayed hot in the circle, allowing just three runs (two earned) and tied her career high 11 strikeouts.
- Warren and Julia Mardigian had multi-hit games while Warren and Gray each had 2 RBI's.
STORY OF GAME TWO:
- The Bears had a base runner in every inning but did not get their first hit till the 5th, a single by Katelyn Rackard.
- Mars Hill scored one in second and then a pair of runs in 5th and 6th innings.
- Alexandria Gray hit her solo home run in the 6th to cut it to 3-1, but Mars Hill extended their advantage to 5-1 with their own home run.
- LR added an unearned run in the 7th inning but ran out of time and suffered their first SAC loss of the season.
- Alissa Russ pitched two innings while giving up one run while Faith Carrigan pitched the last four innings in the circle.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- These were the Bears first true road games of the year. LR has played 16 home games and four neutral sites games before today's contests.
- Wilson also struck out 11 hitters last April against Tusculum.
- Head Coach Shena Hollar won her 990th career game at LR in game one.
- Avery Kiger, Mardigian, and Warren all saw their seven game hitting streaks end in game two.
UP NEXT: Bears will step out of SAC play to face Erskine on Thursday in Due West, S.C. The Flying Fleet are 4-12 this season and coming off two big 15-2 and 16-8 wins over Claflin on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
