Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball program has a new home run king.
Sal Carricato, who is playing just his third season with the Bears, hit a home run on his first at bat of the first game to reach 37 for his career, breaking the school record. He didn't stop at one on the day, as he hit his 38th career long ball in game two.
The Bears dominated the Newberry Wolves, winning 18-8 and 11-0 for the weekend sweep. Lenoir-Rhyne out-hit the visitors 35-14 on the day.
Mackenzie Wainwright brought his season average up to .477 with a 5-for-9 performance that included three home runs, five runs scored, and four RBI's.

GAME ONE INFO:
- The Bears scored their first six runs on long balls.
- Sal Carricato his his record breaking home run in the first, Mackenzie Wainwright hit a solo shot in the third, and Joseph Mozingo continued his strong play with a grand slam in that same third inning.
- LR continued to pour it on in the fourth inning, scoring five runs.Â
- Leading 13-6 after five, Wainwright hit his second home run of the day to score Nathan Kidder and extend the lead to nine.
- Kidder and Nathaneal Keeter sealed the deal with RBI's in the seventh inning.Â
- Michael Logan, Wainwright, Carricato, and Kidder all picked up three hits in the game. Owen Blackledge went 2-for-5 with a double and triple.
- William Girardi (3-1) picked up the win while Nathen Morris (S, 2) got the save in relief.Â
GAME TWO INFO:
- Lenoir-Rhyne took advantage of the windy day as their first three runs came off solo shots from Sal Carricato, Mackenzie Wainwright, and Owen Blackledge.
- A six-run third inning was capped off by an Eli Willen RBI single to score Joseph Mozingo.
- Carricato accounted for three of the Bears last four runs, hitting an RBI double in the fourth and a 2 RBI single in the fifth.
- Kellen Gradisar (5-0) was as steady as they come in this one, allowing just three hits and striking out five in six shutout innings.
- Carricato was not going to settle for just getting the home run record as he went 4-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Sal Carricato broke Evan Taylor's home run record, which he has held since 2010.Â
- The Bears hit 10 home runs this weekend and now have 40 on the season.
- Lenoir-Rhyne now sits at 18 wins, the most in the SAC.
- The 18-3 start for new head coach Adam Skonieczki is the best 21-game start for a new head coach in school history.
- Every Lenoir-Rhyne batter who has at least 60 at bats this season is batting over .300.
