Baseball gets Saturday split but Eagles take series

JEFFERSON CITY, TN - The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team split on Saturday as the Bears took game one 8-4 behind a grand slam and 6 RBI's from Eli Willen, but the Eagles won the rubber game 4-2 to take the SAC series two games to one. 

Willen has been on fire as of late, as he is riding an eight-game hitting streak an has 12 RBI's during that time frame. Cole Laskowski hit LR's only other home run of the day in the third inning of game two.

STORY OF THE GAME ONE:
  • The Bears got a pair of runs in the first while the Eagles responded with a pair in the second to even it up.
  • The game remained 2-2 until the Bears exploded for six runs in the 8th. Carson-Newman responded with a pair in the bottom half but it wasn't enough as LR evened the series at one with the 8-4 win.
  • Willen was the story for the Bears going 3-for-4 on the day with the grand slam in the massive eighth inning. Willen drove in a career best six runs in the contest. 
  • Mackenzie Wainwright and Sal Carricato joined Willen with mulit-hit games.
  • Will Girardi picked up win number seven with seven innings on the mound allowing just them two runs. 
  • Gavin Marley, who was pitching in the third straight game this week for the Bears, didn't allow a hit in 1.2 inning of work.
STORY OF THE GAME TWO:
  • Cole Laskowski had the first run of the game, a solo shot in the top of the third. 
  • The Eagles then scored the next four runs to take control of the contest 4-1. 
  • Alex Khan drove in Willen in the 7th inning to cut the lead to 4-2. The Bears had the tying run at the plate but the Eagles got a fly out to win the game and series. 
  • Kellen Gradisar (7-2) took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) in five innings. 
  • Wainwright had two of the Bears' six hits in this one. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Mackenzie Wainwright extended his hitting streak to 31 games.
  • Wainwright has had at least two hits in eight straight games. 
  • Willen joined Carricato and Tyler Bradley with six RBI's in a single game this season. 
  • Bears will fall to third place in the SAC, one game behind C-N and two games behind Catawba.
UP NEXT: The Bears will host Barton for a mid-week game on Tuesday afternoon. Barton defeated the Bears 10-4 in Wilson, N.C., in Feburary as LR will look to avenge that loss. Barton is 26-15 on the season heading into their series finale with Emmanuel on Sunday. First-pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
