Bears use nine-goal second quarter to power past Coker

HARTSVILLE, SC - Down 4-1 after the opening quarter, Lenoir-Rhyne scored nine goals in the second quarter to take back the lead and propel them to a 14-9 victory. 

Joel Brusnahan and Morgan Madish each netted hat tricks in the win. Jack Burdge picked up the win in goal, making five crucial saves between the pipes.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • An early goal from Joel Brusnahan was answered by four consecutive Coker scores to close the opening quarter.
  • Morgan Madish opened the scoring early in the second quarter with Evan Voss tying things up at 4-4 just a few minutes later.
  • Coker cut the lead back to 6-5 with seven minutes remaining in the half but back-to-back goals from Donovan Powell helped give LR a 10-5 lead at the break.
  • Both teams scored four goals in the second half as Lenoir-Rhyne held on for the five-goal win.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • Donovan Powell, Evan Voss, and Jarrett Huff each tallied two goals and two assists.
  • Matthew Mancini was 14-24 on face offs while also picking up nine ground balls.
  • Seven Bears scored in this one.
  • The Bears out-shot the Cobras 45-28 and held a 27-14 edge in shots-on-goal.
  • LR was a perfect 22-22 on clears.

NEXT UP: Lenoir-Rhyne will host Catawba next Wednesday in their final regular season game of the year. The Indians just went through their most difficult stretch of the year, falling to Wingate, Anderson, and Limestone. They will play Virginia State tomorrow in a non-conference tune-up prior to Wednesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
