Men's Lacrosse picks up fourth straight win with 18-6 defeat of Mars Hill

HICKORY, NC - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse team scored 14 first half goals and cruised to an 18-6 win over Mars Hill on Wednesday. Donovan Powell notched his third game this season with at least four goals, while starting goalie Jack Burdge made 11 saves in the win.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • Fueled by five goals in the first five minutes, Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
  • The Bears led 8-2 after one quarter, helped in part by two goals from Nate Serrano and Donovan Powell.
  • Serrano picked up his third goal of the game in the second quarter and Robert Walker scored back-to-back goals to put the Bears up 14-3 at the break.
  • The game slowed down in the second half, with just seven combined goals. 
  • Powell scored two of his team-leading four goals in the second half to help secure the win.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • Powell, Serrano, and Walker all picked up hat tricks.
  • Jarrett Huff and Joel Brusnahan led the team with two assists.
  • Kyle O'Neal was 9-13 on face off attempts.
  • Jack Burdge made 11 saves to pick up his second win of the season.
  • The Bears out-shot the Lions 54-31, including a 38-17 edge in shots-on-goal.
  • There were only two penalties this game, one early in the first by Mars Hill and the second early in the fourth by Lenoir-Rhyne.

  • This was Lenoir-Rhyne's fourth straight win.
  • The Bears how now beaten the Lions in nine straight games and lead the all-time series 12-4.
  • Donovan Powell leads the Bears with 36 points this season, coming off 29 goals and seven assists.
NEXT UP: Lenoir-Rhyne will travel to South Carolina on Saturday for a key game against Newberry. The Wolves are currently one spot up on the Bears in the conference standings and have already picked up a key win over Wingate earlier this season. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
