Women's Lacrosse pours in 19 goals in Wednesday night victory over Mars Hill

HICKORY, NC - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse team is on an absolute tear. Following tonight's 19-4 win over Mars Hill the Bears have now won six straight games, outscoring their opponents 111-44 during that span.

Leading the way today was freshman Jessica Mikesell, who scored a career-high five goals. Also picking up hat tricks was Alexa Burghardt, Ellie Campbell, and Kirra Olson

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Alexa Burghardt scored just 20 seconds into the game off the assist from Kirra Olson.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne led 5-0 after the first quarter, helped by two Olson goals.
  • Both teams scored four goals in the second quarter and LR led 9-4 going into the break.
  • The Bears' defense held strong in the second half, keeping the Lions out of the net.
  • Burghardt scored back-to-back goals to open the second half.
  • Jessica Mikesell took over late, scoring four of Lenoir-Rhyne's final seven goals.
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Kirra Olson led the team with six points, coming off three goals and three assists.
  • Ellie Campbell picked up eight draw controls while both Marissa Evans and Abbey Walker forced three turnovers.
  • The Bears out-shot the Lions 39-8 and held a 22-6 edge in shots-on-goal.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne took advantage of their free position shots, going 4-for-4 on the day.

  • Lenoir-Rhyne is now 7-0 all-time against the Lions.
  • The Bears need just one more win to match their all-time best winning streak of seven, set back in 2012.
