HICKORY, NC - Pitching was the name of the game on Sunday, as
William Girardi and
Kellen Gradisar each threw shutout gems to give the Bears 9-0 and 7-0 victories over Anderson.
With the sweep the Bears clinched the #2 seed in the SAC Tournament and will host seeds 2, 3, 6, and 7 next weekend in Hickory. To view the SAC Baseball Championship page click

- Eli Willen put the Bears up early with a solo home run in the second inning.
- Sal Carricato extended the lead with his 19th home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fifth inning.
- Michael Logan cushioned the lead with an RBI double in the seventh, and scored after Nathan Kidder brought him home with a double of his own.
- Kellen Gradisar (9-2) joined Girardi with a great day on the mound, striking out five in six innings of work while allowing just five hits.
- Joseph Mozingo was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Carricato went 1-for-2 with three RBI's, two walks, and a run scored.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This is the second time in school history the Bears have hit 40 wins (2022).
- LR has now had back-to-back shutouts twice this season, also holding Bluefield State scoreless on April 2nd.
- The Bears have now hit 106 home runs this season after hitting five more this weekend.
- Lenoir-Rhyne finished second in the SAC regular season standings, their highest regular season finish since they won it in 2001.
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Catawba for a non-conference game on Tuesday before playing host to the SAC tournament next weekend. Tuesday's contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
