Carrigan no-hitter propels Bears past Emory & Henry

HICKORY, NC - It was Faith Carrigan's day on Sunday, as she held Emory & Henry, one of the top hitting teams in the country, hitless in a 9-0 shutout victory for the Bears. 

This was the 24th no-hitter in school history, and the first since Lauren Rakes no-hit Coker on March 16th of last year. Lenoir-Rhyne did what they do best in this one, hit home runs, as long balls from Katelyn Rackard, Avery Kiger, and Julia Mardigian gave LR the win.

STORY OF GAME:
  • LR opened with a lead in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly RBI from Lani Warren.
  • The Bears scored six runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to pick up the five-inning win.
  • With runners on first and second, Katelyn Rackard hit her second home run of the weekend to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Back-to-back home runs from Avery Kiger and Julia Mardigian put LR ahead 7-0 after four.
  • In the bottom of the inning centerfielder Kaylan Brown preserved the no-hitter with a diving catch to end the inning.
  • Warren and Kiger each picked up RBI's in the fifth to give LR the short game opportunity.
  • After a walk to open the inning, Faith Carrigan recorded three straight outs to officially notch the no-hitter.

STATS OF GAME::

  • Faith Carrigan (13-7) finished with a stat line of five innings pitched, no hits, three walks, and five strikouts.
  • Everyone who went up to the plate for the Bears recorded a hit.
  • Katelyn Rackard and Avery Kiger each picked up three RBI's.
  • Rackard was 1-for-1 with three RBI's, three runs, and three walks

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Carrigan's no-hitter was the 24th in school history and the first of her collegiate career.
  • Warren extended her hitting streak to 13 games.
  • The Bears are now on a seven-game winning streak, tied for their longest this season.
  • Mardigian now sits five hits away from breaking LR's all-time hits record.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne advances to the semi-final round of the SAC tournament next Thursday where they will face off against Lincoln Memorial at Wingate.
