Wilson's strong performance in the circle leads to Bears win over LMU

WINGATE, NC - Lenoir-Rhyne continued their quest for a second straight conference championship with a 5-3 victory against Lincoln Memorial on Thursday. Madison Wilson allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work in the circle while Alexandria Gray and Kaylee Chapman combined for four hits, two doubles and two RBI's.

STORY OF GAME:
  • LR jumped ahead 2-0 in the 2nd Inning off an Alex Gray RBI single and a score off a throwing error.
  • Avery Kiger's SAC Fly extended the lead 3-0 in the 3rd Inning.
  • Kaylee Chapman hit an RBI Double and Katelyn Rackard had a SAC Fly in the 4th the push the LR lead to 5-0.
  • Madison Wilson opened the game with four shutout innings while only allowing four Railsplitter base runners.
  •  Lincoln Memorial scratched across a run in the 5th Inning off a Anna Kate Reichter RBI single.
  • Jordan Reagan and Hannah McMee collected RBI singles in the 7th but the Railsplitters' comeback fell just short.. 

STATS OF GAME::

  • Madison Wilson (17-7) finished with a stat line of seven innings pitched, seven hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts.
  • The Bears bottom third of the order combined for five of the seven total hits.
  • There were a total of four walks between Wilson and LMU's Halle Grace Patton in the circle.
  • Alexandria Gray was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Wilson now has 17 complete games and leads the conference with the most strikeouts (165).
  • The Bears are now on a eight-game winning streak which is their longest this season.
  • Rackard has driven in eight runs in the first three games of the SAC Tournament.
  • Gray collected her sixth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Kaylee Chapman extended her hitting streak to 11 games.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne advances to the winner's bracket of the SAC tournament tomorrow where they will face off against Wingate at 10:30 a.m. The Bears and Bulldogs split their season series this year.
