HICKORY, NC - The Lenoir-Rhyne Track & Field teams competed in their final tune up before nationals this past weekend, taking part in the LR Last Chance meets. The weekend consisted of two separate meets, taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
On the women's side, the weekend was highlighted by a monster performance by the 4x400m team that consisted of
Damyja Ortiz,
Jani Day,
Alexis Brown, and
Sharonda Priester. They finished with a new school record time of 3:37.47, which ranks them fifth in DII this year and less than a second shy of the top spot. Ortiz also ran the 200, finishing with a 24.02, the second fastest time of her career.
Holly Kone hit a provo mark of 12.02m in the triple jump, her longest outdoor mark of 2025. Setting a new personal best in the hammer throw was
Savannah Nippa, who won Sunday's meet with a mark of 42.28m (138-8.00).
The men's 4x100m team of
Isaiah Reyes, Macrus Crumpler,
Royce Turner Jr., and
Malachi Carter set a new season best and hit a DII provo mark with a time of 40.78, winning the event.
Harrison Waddell just keeps getting better, as he set a new personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.72m (182-10.00). Crumpler won the 400m with a time of 47.62, a DII provo mark.
This was the final regular season meet for the Bears, as they will find out who will be attending nationals tomorrow night at 6 p.m. The NCAA Track & Field Championships are set to take place in Pueblo, Colorado, on Thursday - Saturday, May 22-24.
