Bears sweep Anderson for the first time since 2013

HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball opened up SAC play in a big way, taking down Anderson 3-0 in the Shu for their first sweep over the Trojans since 2013.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Leading 7-6 in the opening set, two straight kills from Kayli Cleaver ignited an 8-2 run that gave the home side a 15-8 lead.
  • Two straight attack errors from Anderson gave the Bears the opening set victory.
  • Just like the opening set the Bears jumped on the Trojans early, going up 14-6. 
  • Anderson made a slight run, but the Bears held on for a comfortable 25-17 set win.
  • The Trojans found their groove in the third set, eventually taking a 17-12 lead and forcing an LR timeout.
  • Emmaleigh Allen stopped the run with a kill, the first of four consecutive points for the Bears. 
  • Sydney Karjala picked up an ace and kill to give the Bears a 19-18 lead.
  • Down 23-22, the Bears rallied to score the final three points of the set, highlighted by a big block from Hallie Brown and Brooke Aeschliman for the final point.
  • Kayli Cleaver, Brooke Aeschliman, and Emmaleigh Allen each had nine kills for the Bears.
  • Hallie Brown continued her strong play at the net, tallying five blocks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Bears and Trojans are now even in the all-time series at 18-18. 
  • Head Coach Nicole Barringer is now 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference openers. 
  • Hadley Prince crossed the 450 career dig mark tonight with her 14 digs. 
  • Hallie Brown has at least two blocks in eight straight games.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will head to Carson-Newman for an key SAC road match on Friday night. The Eagles moved to 10-0 tonight after the Eagles defeated Lee in a five set thriller, coming back from two sets down to take the match 3-2. First serve from Jefferson City is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
