HICKORY, N.C. - For the first time this season, the Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team is ranked. The Bears, who are riding a five-game winning streak, sit at No. 23 in this week's United Soccer Coaches national poll.
This marks the 18th week in the past three seasons that Lenoir-Rhyne has been ranked. This is also the 73rd time in program history the Bears have appeared in the national poll, placing them among the elite in NCAA Division II. Following a 3-2 loss to Lee to open the year, the Bears have now rattled off five straight wins, including two over SAC programs Lincoln Memorial and Emory & Henry, as well as a big road victory over regional power Columbus State.Â
Lucia Hidalgo is tied for the team lead with nine points and was just named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week. Joining her on top of the points list is
Katie Durham, who has tallied three goals and three assists for the Bears. Sophomore
Riley Miller has played every minute in goal for the Bears this season, allowing just five goals to go along with 15 saves.Â
Fans can watch the Bears tomorrow at home when they play host to undefeated Francis Marion. The game, which doubles as Bears Supporting Bears, is set to kick off at 5:00 p.m.
