WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Havyn Spain made his mark during the outdoor season his freshman year, setting a new school record in the 400 meters and advancing to the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships. After today, Spain now owns both the indoor and outdoor 400 meter records at Lenoir-Rhyne, running a 47.61 this afternoon to break Bamidele Ajayi's record of 47.70 set in 2024.
Also running extremely well in the 400 was
Jani Day, who was the top collegiate finisher in the event with a time of 57.04. That mark sets a new indoor personal best and moves her to third all-time in Lenoir-Rhyne history in that event.
"We've been off for nearly 40 days and the kids were excited to get back to competing," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Bob Braman. "We were understandably a little rusty but we still have some lifetime bests. Havyn's 400 meter race was certainly the highlight of the day. His time is No. 7 nationally and is a great semester opener."
