MILL SPRING, N.C. -
Tobechukwu Nwokocha put the nation on notice on Friday, setting the new NCAA DII high mark in long jump with a leap of 7.78m (25-6.25). This also doubled as Lenoir-Rhyne's new indoor long jump record, breaking All-American Jacob Wadsworth's mark of 7.44m set in 2023.
Winning their respective events were
Lewis Budgen and
Sharonda Priester. Budgen took home win in the afternoon wave of the 3000m, running a new personal best time of 8:33.19, which improves on his ranking of second in program history. Priester ran a season's best time of 56.37 to win the 400m title. That time is an NCAA provo mark and ranks 32nd in the country this year.
"The jumps squad, both men and women, were really strong today. Obviously Tobe was special," said Director of Track & Field
Bob Braman. "Sprints, throws, and distance all competed well considering we've been shut down by the ice storm for five days. We had several lifetime bests in spite of it. I like the potential of our squads . We just have to keep grinding to be at our best at the SAC Championships in one month."
