Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne softball team picked up their first two wins of the season on Wednesday, defeating Belmont Abbey 8-0 and 8-5 in McCrorie Family Stadium.
Over the course of the two games
Autumn Joyce went 4-for-7 and was a double shy of the cycle in game two.
Madison Primm was just at stellar, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
- The Bears did all their damage in two innings as LR scored five times in the second then added three in the third.
- Autumn Joyce and Avery Kiger both had two-out, two-run singles in the five-run second.
- Kaylan Brown had a RBI single and then made a huge hustle play by scoring from second base on Joyce's infield single.
- Adriana Lamantia went 2-for-2 and was the only Bear with multiple hits in the opener.
- Madison Wilson (1-1) picked up the win, throwing three scoreless inning while striking out four.
- Isabelle Wilkins came in relief and threw two shutout inning in her collegiate debut.
STORY OF GAME TWO:
- After the Crusaders scored a run in first inning, Autumn Joyce did not waste any time tying it up as she led off the bottom of the first with her first career home run.
- Belmont Abbey took a 2-1 lead in the second.
- After a Madison Primm RBI double tied things up, Montana Honeycutt just missed a grand slam as the ball bounced off the top of the centerfield fence to give her a 2 RBI double.
- The Crusaders got a couple unearned runs to tied it at 4 but Primm once again drove in Joyce with a RBI single to give the Bears a 5-4 lead after four innings.
- Kiger extended the lead with a solo blast to lead off the bottom of the 5th.
- After the Bears made it 8-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth Belmont Abbey had the tying run on base in the seventh, but Faith Carrigan stuck out Ella Crowe to end the threat and the game.
- Carrigan (1-1) went all seven allowing five runs (two earned) to pick up her first win of the season.
- LR had 10 hits in the night cap, their most in a game this season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Bears have won eight in a row against the Crusaders.
- This is the latest home opener since the Covid season of 2021.
- Madison Primm notched her 100th career RBI in Sunday's opener.
- The win was Wilson's 39th career victory.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will head back on the road with a weekend trip to USC-Aiken on Saturday then Augusta on Sunday. USC Aiken is 5-3 and swept Erskine earlier today. This will be the Bears first trip to Aiken in eight years. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
