Softball drops a pair at USC Aiken

Aiken, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team dropped a pair of games at USC-Aiken on Saturday. Lani Warren connected on a three-run home run in the night cap but the Bears fell 3-0 and 10-5 on Saturday. 

Adriana Lamantia collected two hits in each game while Autumn Joyce added three more hits today. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • Aiken got a single run in the second then plated a pair of runs in the sixth for a 3-0 victory in the opener. 
  • LR out-hit the Pacers 7-6 but could not get a run cross the plate despite having a runner on base in every inning but the second.
  • The two pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts in the game.
  • Faith Carrigan (1-2) took the complete game loss, only allowing one earned run while striking out nine.
  • Adriana Lamantia had Lenoir-Rhyne's only multi-hit game as she went 2-3. Alycea Gilliam had the Bears only extra base hit. 

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first innings after back-to-back RBI doubles by Lani Warren and Madison Primm.
  • The Pacers scored the game's next eight runs to take an 8-2 lead after four.
  • Warren cut the lead in half with a three-run home run in the 5th.
  • That was the closest LR would get as USC-Aiken added a pair of runs in the 6th and closed out the Bears for a 10-5 win. 
  • Autumn Joyce, Warren, Adriana Lamantia, and Kaylan Brown each had two hits to lead the Bears.
  • Isabelle Wilkins (0-2) struck out two in the loss.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first meeting between these programs since the 2018 season. 
  • Wilson picked up career win number 40 on Friday afternoon against Augusta.
  • Warren's home run was her 26th of her career. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will return home to welcome Erskine on Wednesday for a double header. Erskine is currently 1-7 on the season after earning their first win today in an extras over USC Beaufort. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from McCrorie Stadium.
