Bears trounce Tusculum to finish undefeated home slate

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball completed a perfect 13-0 regular season in Shuford Arena, trouncing the visiting Tusculum Pioneers 112-60 on Saturday afternoon. The win is also the Bears's 17th straight victory, extending the program record. 

The Bears had eight players in double figures, led by 18 from Aaliyah El.  El added a career high seven steals as LR forced a season-high 36 turnovers on the day.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Bears used a 14-0 run midway through the first quarter to take a 27-13 lead after ten minutes. 
  • Abigail Brown and Aaliyah El each had ten points in the first half as LR led a 51-24 lead at the break. 
  • The Bears were a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line in the opening half. 
  • After scoring 51 in the first half, The Bears scored 61 points in the second to cross the 100 mark for the sixth time this season. 
  • LR opened a 56 point lead in the 4th quarter as LR won their second game by 50+ this season. 
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • El was flirting with a triple double as she finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. 
  • Ralee Bare was one off her personal best in assists today with seven. LR had 22 total assists on their 39 baskets. 
  • The Bears hit 16 three pointers. led by four each from Amiya Porter and Tatum Bowen
  • Lauren Arnold also stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds, and four steals. 
  • Abigail Brown had 10 points and added three blocks. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Bears have won seven in a row against the Pioneers. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne will close the regular season with trips to Anderson and Carson-Newman.
  • Abigail Brown had her seventh game with at least three blocks. 
  • This year's squad joins the 2009-10 and 1976-77 teams as the only three Lenoir-Rhyne women's basketball teams to finish undefeated at home in the regular season.
  • The Bears keep their slim, one game lead in the conference standings over Lincoln Memorial.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will head on the road for the final two games of the regular season. The first stop will be at Anderson on Wednesday night. Bears defeated the Trojans on January 21 by the final of 81-72. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
