Bears pitching dominant in double header sweep at Barton

Wilson, NC. - Madison Wilson and Faith Carrigan continue to dominate in the circle for the Bears leading to back-to-back shutout victories 9-0 and 4-0 against Barton. Madison Primm crushed two homeruns in the first game while Autumn Joyce, Avery Kiger, and Faith Carrigan each collected homers in the second game. 

Lenoir-Rhyne has not allowed a run in the last 37 innings, extending their win streak to six games.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • Madison Wilson was dominant in the circle pitching a complete game shutout while only allowing three hits and striking out six batters. 
  • Madison Primm broke the shutout in the 4th with a moonshot down the left field line.
  • Sage Young generated a two-run triple followed by a Madison Primm three-run homer, extending the Bears lead 6-0 in the 5th Inning.
  • Two bases loaded walks and a Lani Warren hit by pitch gave the Bears the mercy rule victory 9-0 in the 6th.  
  • Lenoir-Rhyne out-hit Barton seven to three and drew four walks while Barton did not record any extra base hits. 

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • Autumn Joyce opened the scoring with a leadoff bomb to center in the 1st.
  • Barton left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st and only produced three hits for the remainder of the game.
  • Avery Kiger crushed her second home run of the season in the 4th, extending the lead to 2-0.
  • The Bears added two insurance runs in the 7th off Faith Carrigan's home run followed by Adriana Lamantia tripling and scoring on a Bulldog throwing error. 
  • Faith Carrigan tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out eight hitters. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears have won all 10 of their meetings against the Bulldogs.
  • LR is now 8-4 this season against teams from the Conference Carolinas.
  • Madison Wilson collected her ninth career shutout and hasn't given up a run in her last 20 innings of work. 
  • Madison Primm now has three career multi-home run games and has hit five home runs in her last six games. 
  • Avery Kiger produced her 15th career home run while Autumn Joyce has generated a hit in 12 of her first 14 games as a Bear.
  • This is the fourth time in her career that Faith Carrigan has pitched a win on the circle while also hitting a home run in the same game.
UP NEXT: The Bears will return home to battle another Conference Carolinas opponent, Southern Wesleyan, on Saturday afternoon for a double header. Southern Wesleyan is 7-4 after sweeping LMU last weekend at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM from McCrorie Family Stadium.
