Softball drops two at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne opened their season with two tight losses at Mount Olive on Sunday, falling 4-2 and 3-2 to the Trojans. Both Alexandria Gray and Madison Primm went yard for the Bears.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • Mount Olive went up 3-0 after one thanks to timely hitting, two walks, and a hit by pitch.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne scored their first run of the season thanks to a Kaylan Brown single to score Alexandria Gray in the second inning.
  • Gray cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
  • The Trojans tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth then went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
  • Autumn Joyce went 2-for-3 in her first collegiate game.
  • Alexandria Gray finished with two runs an an RBI. 
  • Madison Wilson (0-1) rebounded after the tough first inning to finish with a career high 12 strikeouts.

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • Lenoir-Rhyne nearly struck early, loading the bases with one out in the first before a foul out and a strikeout ended the inning.
  • Mount Olive hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
  • An Autumn Joyce run in the third and Madison Primm long ball in the fifth tied things at two.
  • The Trojans scored the game winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
  • Primm went 2-for-3 in the loss.
  • In total Leonir-Rhyne mustered up just four hits in the game, all coming from their top three hitters in the lineup.
  • Faith Carrigan (0-1) struck out eight in the loss.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will be back in McCrorie Family Stadium on Wednesday, February 11, when they host Belmont Abbey. The Crusaders are 2-0 after a sweep of Fayetteville State on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
