WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's track and field team took fifth at the South Atlantic Conference Track & Field Championships this weekend.
"I'm really proud of these Bears today," said Director of Track & Field
Bob Braman. Everyone competed their guts our and we had some amazing performances. We had dozens of personal bests and conference scorers but the highlight was our five conference champions and one relay champion - all being SAC Championship meet records. We're short on numbers, not on talent. I can see this team emerging during outdoor season and we're excited to build off this success."
Highlighting the meet was
Havyn Spain. The sophomore won the 400 and 4x400 and finished second in the 200, taking home Track Athlete of the Meet honors. His 400m time of 46.69 broke his own school record and ranks seventh in Division II this year. His 200 time of 20.98 is second in Lenoir-Rhyne history and fifth in Division II this year.
The men's 4x400m team consisted of
Jordan Fennell,
Khalid Hornsby,
Sean Crumpler, and Spain. Their time of 3:13.11 set a new SAC meet record, ranks third in Lenoir-Rhyne history, and is 18th in Division II this year. Also taking home a title was
Antonyio Davis, setting a new SAC record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 7.94. This ties him for 12th in the nation this year and puts him in a good spot to qualify for indoor nationals.
