Nationally ranked Wingate hands Bears 14-8 loss

WINGATE, N.C. - The #13 and SAC leading Wingate Bulldogs handed Lenoir-Rhyne their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday, defeating the Bears 14-8 in Wingate, N.C. 

Anneleise Meyer led the team with four goals while Kirra Olson totaled two goals and an assist.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Anneleise Meyer gave the Bears a jump early, scoring the first two goals of the game.
  • Hailey Larsen and Kirra Olson each scored goals in the second quarter, but a 6-1 run midway through the opening half propelled the Bulldogs to a 7-4 lead at the break.
  • Wingate pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears 5-1 in the frame.
  • The Bears scored the final three goals of the game, with two coming from Meyer, to give the contest it's final score.
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Anneleise Meyer (4g), Kirra Olson (2g, 1a), and Hailey Larsen (1g, 1a) finished with multiple points.
  • Sally Friesen set a season high with 14 saves. 
  • Wingate out-shot the Bears 36-21 and 28-20 on shots-on-goal.
