Softball picks up road split with Tusculum

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne softball fell 5-4 in game one at Tusculum before rebounding for a big 12-9 victory in game two. 

Lenoir-Rhyne out hit the Trojans 15-11 in game two and were led by a 3-for-4 performance from starting pitcher Faith Carrigan

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • Tusculum went up 5-0 after three.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne attempted to chip away with three RBIs from Kaylan Brown and a home run from Autumn Joyce.
  • The Bears' final chance came in the sixth with two runners on, but a fly out to left field kept the home team ahead.
  • Brown was the only Bear to record more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. 
  • Madison Wilson (15-3) struck out two in the loss.

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • The Pioneers looked as though they would run away with this one early, going up 4-1 after one.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne answered with 10 runs over the next three innings.
  • During that stretch the Bears had three RBI singles and two RBI doubles.
  • Faith Carrigan gave herself some insurance runs with a solo blast in the fifth.
  • Tusculum put two on with no outs in the seventh, but a fly out and two consecutive strikeouts sealed the win.
  • Eight of the nine Bear batters had a hit in this one, with six posting multiple hits.
  • Lani Warren led the team with three RBIs. 
  • Carrigan (13-4) struck out six in the circle to pick up the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne leads the all-time series 49-12.
  • The Bears last swept the Pioneers in 2023.
  • Carrigan's home run was the 10th of her career.
  • Autumn Joyce leads the team in both hits (51) and runs (39).
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Mars Hill on Tuesday for another SAC doubleheader. The Lions picked up a big split with Anderson today. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from McRorie Family Stadium.
