Bears best Anderson 2-1 to open NCAA Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. - Madison Wilson picked up her 20th win of the season as Lennoir-Rhyne outlasted Anderson 2-1 in the first game of the NCAA Tournament. 

Kennedy Lange's RBI triple to score Adriana Lamantia in the fourth was the difference maker in the game. 

The Bears will now face host Francis Marion tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm in the winner's bracket. The Patriots advanced to the winner's bracket thanks to a 2-1 win over Carson-Newman earlier in the day.

STORY OF GAME:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne picked up the first run of the game when Autumn Joyce scampered home on an RBI groundout from Lani Warren in the third.
  • Anderson loaded the bases in the top of the fourth but left them all stranded thanks to a foul out to first base.
  • Adriana Lamantia scored what would be the game winning run on an RBI triple from Kennedy Lange in the fourth.
  • Anderson played one in the sixth the cut the lead in half.
  • The Trojans' first batter reached due to an error in the seventh, but Madison Wilson picked up three straight outs to get the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Kennedy Lange's triple was the first of her career. 
  • This marks the 13th season the Bears have hit the 40-win mark.
  • This is the second consecutive games these teams have played as Anderson knocked the Bears out of the SAC Tournament last week.
  • The Bears have won at least one game in 14 of their 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. 
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will face host Francis Marion tomorrow at 1 pm. The winner will move to Saturday's championship game at 1 pm, while the loser will play at 7 pm that evening against the winner of Anderson and Carson-Newman.
