FLORENCE, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne just knows how to win softball games. After falling 10-2 to host Francis Marion in the opener, the Bears had to take on Carson-Newman in the evening's elimination game. Tied 2-2 after three, the game didn't see another run until
Madison Wilson singled home
Lacey Nicholson in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
The Bears will now take on Francis Marion tomorrow at 1pm. Since this tournament in double-elimination, the Bears will have to defeat the Patriots twice to advance to next week's super regional.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
- This was all Francis Marion early as they scored seven runs in the first two innings.
- RBIs from Kennedy Lange and Autumn Joyce in the fifth cut the lead to five.
- The Patriots picked up three insurance runs in the seventh to seal the deal.
- Kaylan Brown was 2-for-3 to lead the team.
- Arabelle Shulenburger allowed just four hits and no earned runs in 5.1 innings of relief action.
STORY OF GAME TWO:
- The Eagles struck first with a run in the first.
- Avery Kiger answered in the bottom of the inning with a 2 RBI double to score Madison Primm and Kaylan Brown.
- Carson-Newman scored their last run of the game in the third on a sac fly.
- The Bears put runners at the corners in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play sent the game to extras.
- The Eagles threatened in the top of the eighth with runners on first and second, but Madison Wilson picked up two consecutive strikeouts to end that half of the inning.
- The Bears loaded the bases in the ninth thanks to two walks and an error, and Madison Wilson helped her cause in the circle with the game winning RBI single.
- Both teams had just five hits in the game.
- Lenoir-Rhyne won despite four fielding errors, while Carson-Newman's only mistake in the field came in that crucial ninth inning.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The last time the Bears played three separate teams in a regional was 2018.
- Madison Wilson's RBI was her first since April 20th at Lees-McRae.
- Wilson's season ERA dipped below two (1.96) after today.
- This is the 11th time Lenoir-Rhyne has won at least two games at a regional.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow at 1pm to take on Francis Marion. Should Lenoir-Rhyne win, the teams would face off again immediatly following game one to determine who advances to next week's NCAA Super Regional. On the other side of the region, Lander and North Georgia play in the same portion of the bracket, with Lander needing to win one and North Georgia two to advance.
