HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne athletic department finished 22nd in this year's NCAA Division II NACDA Learfield Cup Standings with 526.50 points. This marks the third best finish in program history.
In the Spring Lenoir-Rhyne picked up points from Women's Soccer (73) and Volleyball (50). Women's soccer made a run to the national quarterfinals and took home the Southeast Regional crown, while volleyball advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history after a 3-1 win over Lander in the opening round.
The winter saw big performances from both the men's and women's basketball teams, as their runs to the regional championship netted them 64 points each. Men's Indoor Track & Field placed 18th at nationals, earning them 56 points. Women's Indoor Track & Field placed 43rd, giving them 29.
Lenoir-Rhyne's spring saw four teams score points. Men's Lacrosse's run to the national quarterfinals gave them 65 points, the second most by any Bear team all season. Thanks to All-America finishes from
Mackenzie Pringle and
Sharonda Priester, Women's Track & Field earned 50.5 points at outdoor nationals. Softball went 2-2 at the NCAA Regional, earning them 50 points. Women's Tennis closed out the spring by qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, giving them 25 points.
Not included in the Learfield Cup standings is Women's Triathlon, who had yet another successful season by winning their third national championship in four years.
Lenoir-Rhyne has finished in the top 50 of the Learfield Cup standings in each of the previous five years, and have been a top 25 finisher in three of the last four.
Wingate was the top SAC finisher, coming in second with 892.50 points. Catawba was just ahead of Lenoir-Rhyne in 10th with 657.50 points. The top five consisted of Grand Valley State (1,089.75), Wingate (892.50), Indianapolis (832.00), West Texas A&M (737.75), and Minnesota State-Mankato (705.00).
