HICKORY, N.C. - It was home sweet home this week for the Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball team as the Bears finished with their third SAC victory, sweeping the visiting Coker Cobras on Saturday.
Five Bears had at least six kills on the afternoon with
Averie Dale leading the way with ten.
Addison Vary added 15 digs to lead the Bears.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STORY OF THE MATCH:
- LR wasted no time jumping all over the Cobras as the Bears opened a 11-4 lead in the opening set.
- A Sydney Karjala ace give the Bears the 25-16 win. The Bears had three aces in the first set.
- Lenoir-Rhyne dominated the second set in all phases as LR hit a .348 while holding the Coker to a negative hitting % (-.043).
- Bears took care of the second set 25-10.
- In the third set, Bears once again jumped ahead early with a 7-2 lead, however Coker had their best stretch of the afternoon with a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the day at 11-7.
- Coker was looking to extended the game to a fourth set with a 23-21 lead, but a kill from Emmaleigh Allen and an ace by Alicia Barbarito tied it at 23-23.
- Coker had a game point at 24-23 but Dale's 10th kill of the day tied it up at 24-24.
- After an error by Coker, Allen finishes the sweep with her 8th kill of the day to give LR the victory.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Addison Vary led the Bears with 15 digs while adding six kills of her own. Vary also had four service aces today.
- Alicia Barbarito had 20 assists while Ella Scott had 14.
- The Bears had nine blocks on the day, fourth most this season. Averie Dale led the Bears with two block solo's and five block assists.
- LR finished the day hitting .250 on the afternoon, fourth highest of the season.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Bears have won eight in a row against Coker in Hickory. Coker has not defeated the Bears in the Shu since 2017.
- Allen is now 10 kills away from 1,000 in her career.
- Sydney Karjala played in her 200th career set this afternoon.
- In her 200th set, Karjala picked up her 70th and 71st ace of her career.
- Bears defeated Catawba, Wingate and Coker this week at home and still has Emorry & Henry, Newberry and Anderson inside the Shu to conclude the month of September.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will continued their six game home stand when Emory & Henry comes to the Shu on Tuesday night. The Wasps are 0-10 on the season including 0-6 in the SAC and were swept by Lincoln Memorial today. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Tuesday night.
