Men's Golf wins team title at Wolves Fall Intercollegiate

LANCASTER, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team picked up the second win of the Chris Jones era this week, taking home the team title at the Wolves Fall Intercollegiate. The Bears were the only team to finish under par for all three rounds and went 283-287-282 to finish with an 852 (-12), defeating the host Newberry by 20 strokes. 

Gabriel Ansley of Chowan and Justin Woods of Savannah State both carded 54-hole scores of 207 (-9) to tie for medalist honors. 

Lenoir-Rhyne placed three individuals in the top-10, led by freshman Flynn Lewis. After an opening round 75, Lewis came back with rounds of 69 and 68 to take fourth with a 212 (-4). This marks his second top-five finish and his second time leading the team at an event. Not far behind him was sophomore Nicklaus Newton, who was consistent with three consecutive rounds of 71 to tie for fifth with a 213 (-3). Rounding out the Bears' top-10 finishers was freshman Brady McIntyre, who closed with a 2-under 70 and finished the tournament with a 218 (+2). 

David Gee had the highlight of the tournament went he scored a 63 (-9) in round one, setting a new school record and tying the course record. During that round he carded eight birdies, one eagle, and one bogey. He ended up in a tie for 12th with a 221 (+5). The final scorer for the Bears was Archie Mathers, who still managed to finish in the top-15 with a 223 (+7). 

The Bears dominated this tournament, leading the field in par-3 scoring (3.23, +14), Par-4 scoring (4.10, +15), par-5 scoring (4.63, -22), total birdies (60), and fewest bogeys (48). Individually, Nicklaus Newton was the best in the tournament on par-3s, averaging a 2.83 (-2). Brady McIntyre was tied for second on par-5s with a 4.50 (-6) average. Flynn Lewis and Newton tied for fourth with 13 birdies while Lewis' five bogeys were the second fewest in the field. McIntyre and Newton were two of just eight individuals to record only one double bogey.

INDIVIDUAL SCORES Lenoir-Rhyne will take a week off before traveling to Niney-Six, South Carolina, to compete in Lander's Patriot Fall Classic. The tournament will be hosted at the Patriot Club at Grand Harbour on October 19-20.
