Box Score Asheville, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team (4-3, 1-2) limited Brevard College (3-4, 0-3) to just 48 yards of total offense in snapping a two-game losing streak in defeating Tornados by a 24-8 score Saturday afternoon at Asheville High School Stadium.
L-R junior quarterback Major Herron (Kingsland, Ga.) rushed for a game-high 108 yards on 38 carries and two touchdowns as the Bears rallied from an 8-0 deficit to pick up the win.
Brevard scored the first eight points on a blocked punt out of the end zone and a?fumble returned for a touchdown from 37 yards out by Prince Simunyu (Wake Forest, N.C.) with 9:54 left in the first quarter.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first of its 24 consecutive points with a 10-play, 66-yard drive capped off by Herron's four-yard touchdown run that cut the margin to 8-7 late in the first quarter.
L-R took the lead for good on junior placekicker Colin Corpe's (Ocala, Fla.) 37-yard field goal with 18 seconds remaining before half for the 10-8 advantage.
Herron made it 17-8 midway through the final stanza with a?one-yard touchdown run that finished off a five-play, 55-yard drive before senior fullback Anthony Silvers (Burnsville, N.C.) scored from six yards out with just 19 seconds remaining.? Silvers' run was set up by a?sack of Brevard's quarterback on fourth down.
In addition to holding Brevard to 48 yards, Lenoir-Rhyne racked up 370 yards of total offense including 271 on the ground.? Both the Tornados and the Bears entered the contest ranked first and second, respectively,?in rushing in NCAA Division II.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior defensive back Marcus Shuford (Newton, N.C.) led the Bears with 10 tackles while sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Martin (Roebuck, S.C.) added two quarterback sacks.
L-R's top wideout, junior Nick Stutts (Statesville, N.C.), added 88 yards receiving on just three catches in the game.
