Newberry, S.C. ?? The Newberry College Football Team (2-2, 1-0) rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne University (3-2, 0-1), 40-36, Saturday afternoon at Setzler Field in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams.
Newberry?s Bryan Ehrlich (San Antonio, Texas) passed for 244 yards and four touchdowns as the Wolves won the fifth straight meeting between the two schools.? Ehrlich also completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Bostick (Florence, S.C.) with 29 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner.
In addition, Newberry retains the Bishops Trophy, which is given to the winner of the annual battle between the two Lutheran schools of North and South Carolina.
After Newberry?s Max Elliott (Clover, S.C.) returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for the score, L-R responded with a five-play, 69-yard drive capped off by junior quarterback Major Herron?s (Kingsland, Ga.) one-yard touchdown run.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which scored a touchdown on its first four possessions, built a 27-14 halftime lead when Herron scored the final of his three rushing touchdowns from one yard out again at the 3:38 mark of the second quarter.? The score ended an 11-play, 79-yard drive for the Bears, who entered the game as the nation?s second-best rushing team and finished with 376 yards on the ground.
The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter ? a 31-yard touchdown pass?from Ehrlich to David Pressley (Anderson, S.C.) and a 50-yard touchdown run by Lenoir-Rhyne senior running back James Pone (Wilson, N.C.) ? before Newberry scored 19 points in the final quarter to pull out the win.
Ehrlich?s five-yard touchdown pass to Jake James (Walhalla, S.C.) and a four-yard touchdown run by Pressley after a fumbled kickoff tied the score at 33 with 13:25 left.
L-R broke the 33-all tie with a 29-yard field goal by junior placekicker Colin Corpe (Ocala, Fla.) with 7:28 before Ehrlich?s game-winning pass to Bostick sealed the win for the Wolves.? On Newberry?s final drive, Ehrlich completed a 28-yard pass to Bostick on fourth down to keep the Wolves? hopes alive.
Newberry?s Ron Parker (St. Helena Island, S.C.), the reigning SAC Defensive Player Of The Year, intercepted an L-R pass in the end zone as time expired.
Herron and Pone led the Bears on the ground with 127 and 117 yards, respectively, as L-R held a 468-299 advantage in total yards despite the setback.? Stutts had 67 yards receiving on just three catches while Lenoir-Rhyne senior defensive back Marcus Shuford (Newton, N.C.) led all tacklers with 12.
Pressley finished with 155 yards receiving on 14 catches and two total touchdowns to lead Newberry.
