Rock Hill, S.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men?s Soccer Team placed three players on the 2010 All-South Atlantic Conference First and Second Teams, league officials announced today
Sophomore midfielder Oriol Cortes (Barcelona, SPAIN) earned first-team accolades while junior forward Nicky Matthews (Bradford, ENGLAND) and freshman defender Chris Wilson (Kernersville, N.C.) were named to the All-SAC second team.
Cortes led the team in assists this year with seven to go along with two goals and 11 total points for the Bears.
Matthews led the squad in goals (12) and points (26) in 2010 including a pair of hat tricks in conference wins over Catawba and Tusculum.? Matthews also tallied two game-winning goals and scored eight of his 12 goals against SAC competition.
Wilson played and started in 17 of Lenoir-Rhyne?s 18 matches this year and helped the Bears hold their opponents to a 1.66 goal-against average including four shutouts.
Lenoir-Rhyne finished the year with a 10-8 record and a 5-4 mark in the South Atlantic Conference.? The Bears have put together six straight non-losing seasons.
L-R captured the Fair Play Award as well, given to the team that demonstrates good sportsmanship in conference play.
