Guillermo Garcia named fifth Academic All-American in program history

HICKORY, N.C. - Guillermo Garcia has been named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Third Team honoree, becoming just the fifth Bear to be named an Academic All-American.

Garcia was the only South Atlantic Conference honoree on all three Academic All-America teams. He joins Victor Cascon (2020), Ruben Morillas (2018), Jens Roessler (2017), and Ben Jones (2014) as Lenoir-Rhyne representatives on the team.

The senior was a standout defender for the Bears this season, starting in all 17 games and logging 1,545 minutes on the pitch, the third most on the team. He was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in the season opener against Belmont Abbey and finished the year with two goals and two assists. His strong defending helped the Bears allow just 10 goals in conference play and post six total shutouts.
