Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer Team (3-1) displayed its offense by knocking off King College (0-4), 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex.? Senior forward Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) led the charge for the Bears with two goals in the victory.
Holt began the onslaught early as she collected a flick from junior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) and beat two defenders before driving a shot into the left side of the net at the 4:18 mark to give L-R a 1-0 lead.? Linehan was credited with the assist.
Holt notched her second goal just under 20 minutes later when she received a thru ball from junior defender Casey McDonnell (Toms River, N.J.) and slotted a low shot in the left side from 15 yards out to make the score 2-0.? McDonnell was credited with the assist.
Junior defender Jessica Schob (Ione, Calif.) joined the scoring line next as she gathered an errant clear from a corner kick and volleyed a drive from 19 yards out that slipped in just under the crossbar to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage.
Linehan added another goal for the Bears before the half when she drove a shot from twenty yards out that deflected off two defenders and into the King net, making the score 4-0.? Holt picked up the assist to finish with five points in the contest.
The Bears substituted all eleven players entering the second half.? Senior midfielder Audrey Moore (Dublin, IRELAND), freshman forward Ariel Dominguez (Annapolis, Md.), senior midfielder Lauren Rosch (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman forward Andrea Rohrscheib (Caracas, VENEZUELA) each had a goal in the second frame.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) played the first frame
