Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Upends Pfeiffer, 2-1

Hickory, N.C. ?? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer Team (2-1) bounced back to defeat Pfeiffer University (2-1), 2-1, Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex.? L-R junior midfielder Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.) scored the game-winning goal early in the second half as the Bears handed the Lady Falcons their first setback of the year.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored first in the 13th minute when sophomore midfielder Dana Hillmann (Berlin, GERMANY) placed a corner kick in the back of the net.

Pfeiffer tied the contest with 90 seconds left before intermission after Megan Reaves (Mims, Fla.) scored from the right side of the net, pushing the ball past the Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper.

The contest remained one-all until Mena scored off a blocked shot by sophomore forward and All-American Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) at the 56:52 mark of the second half.? The goal was Mena?s first of the 2010 season.

Lenoir-Rhyne held a 21-7 advantage in shots taken en route to the win while sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) was credited with the victory for the Bears after holding Pfeiffer scoreless in the second half.

Pfeiffer?s Jamie Alcala (Fredericksburg, Va.) suffered the loss in goal despite tallying nine saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face King on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., while Pfeiffer hosts No. 8 Columbus State Sunday at Noon in Misenheimer, N.C.
