Mount Olive, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (1-3) picked up its first win of the 2011 season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Mount Olive College (0-4) Saturday afternoon at Amon Field.
Three different players scored for Lenoir-Rhyne, who managed just one goal in its first three contests of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior defender Sean Rogers (Dublin, IRELAND) opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the contest with a penalty kick that also proved to be the game-winner.
The Bears pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute when freshman midfielder Zach Carles (Leesport, Pa.) kicked in a rebound after a header shot was saved by the Trojans.
Senior midfielder Jordan Holmes (Southport, ENGLAND) rounded out the scoring for?Lenoir-Rhyne with a goal with just 1:15 remaining in the contest.
The Bears also held a 19-6 advantage in shots taken while sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) picked up the shutout to go along with two saves.
Mount Olive's Rob Gray (Alexandria, Va.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping 10 Lenoir-Rhyne shots.
