For Lenoir-Rhyne University men's soccer standout Aaron Wheeler, who played with the Bears from 2006 through 2008, signed with Major League Soccer's (MLS) Philadelphia Union.

Philadelphia, Pa. - Former Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer standout Aaron Wheeler has signed with Major League Soccer's (MLS) Philadelphia Union.

Wheeler, a native of Baltimore, Md., joined the Union after playing for the Finnish Club Team, FC KooTeePee.

Wheeler was a three-year starter for the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team?(2006-08) who earned All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team honors three times and was a 2006 and 2007 NCAA Division II All-Appalachian Region First-Team selection.

Wheeler finished his Bears? career with 25 goals, six assists and 56 points including a team-high 13 goals and 28 points in 2008.

Wheeler also helped lead L-R to a 19-1-1 record in 2006 to go along with a Food Lion SAC Tournament Championship and a No. 5 final national ranking.

That same season, Lenoir-Rhyne hosted the NCAA Division II Appalachian Regional Tournament and advanced to the regional finals before falling to Lincoln Memorial in penalty kicks.

Wheeler also played for Union PDL affiliate Reading United (then Reading Rage) and led the league with 17 goals scored en route to PDL Most Valuable Player accolades.

In addition, Wheeler saw time with FC Tampa Bay and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League (NASL).
