Lenoir-Rhyne Men's And Women's Cross Country Take Ninth Place At The 2015 SAC Championships

Lenoir-Rhyne senior Paige Smith was the top Bears' runner Saturday morning at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships at Wasioto Winds Golf Course.

Pineville, Ky. – Both the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams finished ninth at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday morning at Wasioto Winds Golf Course.

On the men’s side, Queens won the title with five runners in the top ten and ended Mars Hill’s 18-year run as league champions.  The Lions, who finished second, had the top individual in Alex Griggs.  Griggs finished the 8K course in 25:08.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by sophomore Derek Chavis (Lexington, N.C.).  Chavis placed 34th overall with a time of 27:23.

In the women’s competition, Wingate won its third straight conference championship behind the strength of four runners among the top 11 competitors.  The top female in the meet was Queens’ Catie Byrd, who finished the 5K course in 18:17.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s top runner was senior Paige Smith (Ramseur, N.C.).  Smith finished in 20:44, good for 35th-place overall.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country Teams will next compete in the 2015 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships on Saturday, November 7, in Wingate, N.C.
