Mount Olive, N.C. – Four members of the Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team garnered 2016 NCCSIA College Division All-State accolades. NCCSIA is the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association.
Of the four players, two earned first-team all-state honors for the Bears: senior forward
Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.) and senior goalkeeper
Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.).
Smith led the team in goals scored (nine), assists (eight) and total points (26) while Leano sported a 0.90 goals-against average with 59 saves and six shutouts. Both players were named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman midfielder
Abigael McGarel (Morristown, Tenn.) and senior defender
Kim Migliarese (Salem, Va.) were named to the all-state second team.
McGarel, the 2016 SAC Freshman Of The Year, finished with five goals, two assists and 12 points while Migliarese anchored a backline which limited its opponents to just 18 goals in 20 matches with eight shutouts. Both McGarel and Migliarese were named to the All-SAC Second Team as well.
All four players led Lenoir-Rhyne (13-5-2, 8-2-1) to its sixth South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship in seven seasons this fall and a berth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament.
