HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team found themselves in a back-and-forth track meet with South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry College, and survived the conference opener at home, 88-82, on Tuesday evening.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Five different players scored in double figures for the Bears, led by 24 points from Corey Thomas followed closely by fellow 20-point scorer,
Djibril Diallo.

R.J. Gunn (13), Mason Hawks (11) and Darius Simmons (10) wrapped up the list of double-digit scorers for Lenoir-Rhyne. Gunn flirted with a double-double, grabbing eight rebounds in the game.

Jonathan Jean was dynamic with the ball in his hands, leading the home squad with nine assists on the night.

A large part of this game was played down low, with the Bears outscoring the Wolves, 52-42, in that area.

Both teams made more shots than they missed, as the Bears shot 51.4 percent from the floor while the Wolves put in 53.2 percent of their shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• With the win, the Bears are off to their best start since the 2015-16 season, a team that ended up dancing in March.
• The stat lines for Diallo and Thomas are extraordinarily similar so far this season, with both averaging 29.8 minutes per game, both scoring north of 17 points per game this season (17.3 for Thomas and 17.0 for Diallo) and just above five rebounds per game (5.5 for Thomas and 5.3 for Diallo).
