Box Score Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Basketball Team played in Shuford Gymnasium for the first time this season but fell to the Newberry Wolves, 75-68, on Tuesday night in the South Atlantic Conference opener.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The Bears were hot to start the game, going on an 11-0 run in the home opener and led 19-7 after the first quarter, but the duo of Meg Essex (31 points and 15 rebounds) and Regan McCarty (15 points and 10 rebounds) proved to be too much to handle in the SAC battle.
• The Bears had three players score in double-digits –
Kendall Toineeta (16),
Madi Suddreth (10) and
Karlie Bearden (10). Both Suddreth and Bearden were productive in the post and active on the boards resulting in double-double efforts with 10 rebounds a piece.
• One of the differences in the game was the post play and the Bears lost the battle in points in the paint (26-16) and rebounds (44-31).
• The Bears did outscore the Wolves in bench points (21-13) and points off turnovers (12-10).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Toineeta's 16-point performance is the third-straight contest that she led the Bears in scoring. The Bears are 2-1 when she is the leading scorer.
• Suddreth put up her third game in double figures this season and this was the second double-double performance in Bearden's career at Lenoir-Rhyne.
