Coker Baseball Takes First Game Of Weekend Series, 13-7 Over Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (26-20, 12-13) suffered a 13-7 setback to Coker (17-24, 6-19) Friday night in the opening game of a South Atlantic Conference weekend series at Bears Field.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Trailing by a 2-0 score after four innings of play, the Cobras took control by scoring 13 of the game's next 15 runs.  Coker was led by Thomas Lopez (St. Cloud, Fla.) and Charlie Burguieres (Greensboro, N.C.) with two hits and three runs batted in to lead the visitors on offense.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior designated hitter Caleb Beatty (Falls Church, Va.) totaled three hits and three runs batted in, redshirt freshman second baseman Brock Johnson (Granite Falls, N.C.) had three hits and scored twice and sophomore shortstop Corbin Watson (Eden, N.C.) added a solo home run in the losing effort.
•    LR walked 11 batters while six of the Cobras' 13 runs were unearned.  Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore John Grigg (Lawndale, N.C.) fell to 8-2 after taking the loss while Coker's Griffin Hollifield (Falls Church, Va.) (4-3) earned the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    With five strikeouts on the night, Lenoir-Rhyne raised its league-leading total to 386.

UP NEXT:
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Bears Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.  A special Senior Day ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m.
