Perfect Ten! Softball Moves to 10-0 for Third Time in Program History

Hickory, N.C.--  For the third time in program history, the Lenoir Rhyne's Softball team starts the season 10-0. The Bears had 23 hits which led to 22 runs today to complete the weekend sweep from visiting Virginia State and Johnson C. Smith. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • LR got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the 1st, all with two outs. Lora Beth Wood and Ashten Hinkle had RBI hits in the innings. 
  • LR once again in the third inning did all their damage with two outs. Kendall Osborne and Savannah Moorefield had back to back RBI doubles before Kylee Leonhardt connected on her fourth homerun of the year, a two-run shot to gave the Bears a 7-0 lead. 
  • Virginia State got on the board with a lead-off homerun in the 4th from Sydnee Brown.  
  • Moorefield added a two-out rbi single in the bottom of the 4th scoring Hinkle. 
  • Virginia State got their second homerun of the game in the 5th. This time Kennedy Presson connected over the center field wall. 
  • After the homerun then single, Morgan Beeler came in relief of Mary Anna Clement in the 5th, Clement went 4.1 IP allowing 7 hits and 2 runs while striking out 4 Trojans. Clement got the win to move her record to 2-0
  • The Bears walked it off when Cherise Cowoski and Mackensi Swain scored after a fielding error by Virginia State's Vanessa Ruby. 
  • Wood finished 3-3 on the game with a walk. It was Wood's first three hit game in her career. 
STATS OF GAME TWO:    
  • For the fourth straight game this weekend, The Bears scored in the first. Savannah Moorefield doubled then scored on a Talon LaClair single to gave the Bears a 1-0 lead.
  • Moorefield then crashed her second homerun of the season in the bottom of the second, a two-run opposite field shot to gave LR a 3-0 lead. 
  • LR sent fourteen hitters to the plate in a nine-run third inning. The Bears had RBI singles from Sami Deiseler, Kailey Travis, Taylor Beard and LaClair in the inning. 
  • Morgan Beeler went the distance to pick up her 4th win of the season . Beeler only allowed 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 6 Golden Bulls. 
  • Nine different Bears had hits and scored runs in the second game. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • 2003 and 2015 were the other two years the Bears started 10-0. 
  • Talon LaClair now has multiple hits in seven games already this season.
  • Kylee Leonhardt took over the SAC lead in home runs with her dinger in the first game. 
  • After committing six errors in their first six games, LR was perfect this weekend, no errors in any of the four games. 
  • Bears hit .510 as team this weekend and had 52 hits to go along with their 51 runs scored.
