Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Le Moyne on Monday afternoon to finish with a perfect 8-0 home stand.
Lauren Rakes struck out a career-high 16 in the shutout and
Katelyn Rackard and
Julia Mardigian hit their first career home runs. In the finale,
Cassidy Wall recorded her first career 2-HR game as LR needed just five innings to complete the sweep.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
- Rackard broke the scoreless tie with her first career homerun with two outs in the bottom of the third to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.
- Cassidy Wall's 12th RBI of the season gave the Bears a 2-0 lead after a two-out single scoring Kory Hammett.
- Mardigian then gave the Bears an insurance run with her first career homerun to leadoff the bottom of the 6th.
- Rakes threw her third complete game shutout of the home stand. Rakes allowed just three hits while striking out 16.
- Rakes had a perfect game until the 18th batter of the game reached via a fielding error. The no-hit bid was broken up with a single following the error in the top of the 6th.
- Le Moyne's Dominque Russo was the only starter for the Dolphins that did not strike out.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- Dominique Rinaldi got the Dolphins on the board with a solo home run in the top of the 1st.
- Bears responded with three in the bottom half including RBIs from Wall and Hannah Jennings.
- After the Dolphins cut the lead to one in the top of the 3rd, Wall extended the lead back to two with her second home run of the season.
- LR then added an unearned run to make it 5-2 after three innings.
- Wood smoked her second bomb of the game, a 2-run shot in the fourth to push LR's lead to 7-2.
- In the fifth, Savannah Moorefield drove in a run and Leanna Sherrill complete the win with a 2-RBI base hit to invoke the mercy rule.
- Morgan Beeler got the start and improved to 4-3 in the circle by allowing just two runs and striking out four.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This is the first time these two programs have met on the softball diamond.
- Moorefield exnded her hitting streak to 15 games with hits in both ends of the double header.
- Rakes came into the game 7th in all of DII with 12.4 strikeouts per seven innings.
- Rakes also passed assistant coach Emily Kenley to move into 9th place for most strikeouts in program history.
- Rakes ran her consecutive scoreless inning streak to 27.
- The Bears are a perfect 10-0 at home this season.
UP NEXT: LR will head to Florence S.C. on Friday to play in the Patriot Invitational. Bears will open play Friday night at 6:00 against Kutztown.
