MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne women's golf had an outstanding tournament at the Low Tide Intercollegiate at Dunes West Golf Club, finishing second in the field of 13 teams.
Megan Robb also finished second in the individual competition, narrowly missing a putt to force a playoff against individual champion Ebba Hellman of Limestone on the final hole. Limestone was the champion of the tournament as a team.
"
Megan Robb is one of the great players to ever play for this program," said head coach
Elliot Gealy. "She had a great bounce-back touranment this week after last week's DQ, and the team as a whole followed suit. We want to finish a little better, but to be able beat the number five team in the country (Anderson) says a lot about where we are as a team right now. Our goal is to be playing our best golf in April when the stakes are the highest, and this weekend was a big step in the right direction."
In the first round, Robb had a bogey-free round to go along with five birdies, four of which came on the back nine. She fired two 73's in a row in the second and third rounds to finish 2-under par for the tournament. Robb led the entire field with a score of 2-under par on par 3s over the weekend, and also led the field in birdies with 11.
Patricia Asensio tied for 10th in the individual competition with a 227 (+11), but her score didn't count towards the team score. In the team scoring, Robb was followed by
Marta Cervero, who bounded back with a final round 73 to finish with a 229 (+13).
Beatriz Espelosin also turned in a top-25 finish, tying for 23rd with a 231 (+15).
Katie Sibley and
Eleni Diakou rounded out the Bear effort, but both improved their standing on day two, as Sibley tied for 29th and Diakou tied for 40th.
The Bears are in action next at the Ralph Hargett Memorial hosted by Wingate at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe, N.C. on March 14-15.
